About Us

Founded in 2022, The Center for Global Health Equity is the multidisciplinary home for Global Public Health research at NYU Shanghai. It is one of the few research centers in Asia focused on equity as a key priority in our work. We are also home to Global Mental Health, a sub-field of Global Public Health.

Global Health Equity
Mission statement

The Center for Global Health Equity will serve society and improve the health of diverse populations through innovative research.

Vision statement

The Center for Global Health Equity envisions a world where all populations can live healthy, productive, and fulfilling lives

COVID-19 has demonstrated the importance of global public health research. The pandemic has revealed our interconnectedness and our collective vulnerability to infectious diseases and to the underlying social determinants of health – the upstream exposures that increase vulnerability to diseases globally and exacerbate health. Research and training in global public health has never been more important. The pandemic has also exacerbated existing inequalities in health that existed across populations and brought with it a heightened awareness of the need for interventions to improve mental health, respond to disasters, improve health communication, and better understand the promise and vulnerability imposed by increased digitalization. The Center and all who work within it directly serve society through the conduct of research that is aligned with the goal of intervening to improve the health of local, regional, and global populations, across a broad range of the most pressing global public health issues.

The NYU Shanghai Center for Global Health Equity is a proud member of the Chinese Consortium for Universities in Global Health (CCUGH).
