Clinical Assistant Professor of History, NYU Shanghai
Dr. Shuang Wen (温爽) is a historian of modern China and the Middle East. Prior to joining NYUSH, Shuang held fellowships at the National University of Singapore and New York University Abu Dhabi. As a native Chinese speaker, she received immersive Arabic-language training from the American University in Cairo, where she also obtained an MA in Middle East studies, University of Damascus, and Middlebury College. Shuang earned her PhD in Transregional History (modern Middle East and East Asia) from Georgetown University in Washington DC. Shuang specializes in the multilayered interactions and exchanges between China and the Middle East, which comprises agricultural, diplomatic, intellectual, medicinal, and religious affairs. At CGHE, she is continuing her research on histories of breast cancer in China and the Middle East.
