Policies addressing unsafe opioid prescribing in the United States

Dr. Yuhua Bao, Professor of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, will provide an overview of past, current, and planned research on policies addressing unsafe opioid prescribing in the United States. Past work has focused on state policies governing Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs and implications for patients with chronic, non-cancer pain. Ongoing work funded by the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society assesses intended and unintended consequences for patients with cancer-related pain.

Speaker Bio

Yuhua Bao

Yuhua Bao, PhD is a Professor of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. Dr. Bao conducts economic and policy studies that support evidence-based and patient-centered care for people with mental health and substance use conditions. Two current areas of research are innovations in provider payment policies for mental health and substance use services and intended and unintended consequences of policies addressing the opioid crisis. Dr. Bao received her BA in economics from Fudan University in Shanghai, China and her PhD from the RAND Graduate School of Policy Studies in Santa Monica, CA.
